Whatever that means/used to mean...

Regardless: NEWS!

First, hope you're all doing well. Quite a different world now than when I started this writing adventure.

Just wanted to let you know that I just got the pages back from the proofreader. She did an exhausingly thorough job (I know this, because I'm exhausted by it).

What's Next

I hope to send out queries for the book to literary agents in about two weeks. As I mentioned previously, I'm giving that exploration six months to succeed. At which point, one of two things will happen:

  •  I'll let you know that a publisher is taking on the book, my agent and publisher's names, and the schedule for publication (typically 18 months from the date of acceptance); OR...
  •  I will go the indie-publishing route and you will begin to receive your ebooks immediately (at that six-month mark) and physical books and other goodies about a month after that (depending on where you are on this planet).

The end is drawing closer and before you know it, the book you backed (a thousand thank-you's!) will be on a truck and on its way to you!

Best,

Thomas

It's been a year already!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 29, 2020 at 12:04:45 PM

Hi everyone,

Hard to believe that just a year ago fundraising wrapped up for this book. Quite a milestone in my life and it brings back lots of fond memories. I couldn't have created this novel without the support of all of you!

What's the latest?

The full manuscript for City At My Feet is now with beta readers. After I respond to their concerns and questions (and, hopefully, a tiny bit of praise), the book proceeds next  to my proofreader for one final go-through. Thanks to all editors and readers involved to get it to this stage. Once I have the proofreader's notes, I'll make all suggested corrections and the book will be 100% ready to read! These remaining phases should wrap up by the end of May (fingers crossed).

What's next?

As I mentioned in a previous update, I'm pursuing getting a literary agent and then a publisher, but I don't want to spend too much more time on that. I'm shooting for a fall publication date on my own, so I'll stop seeking representation by June 1st. That will ensure I have time to deliver to you your pre-publication copies, as well as to prepare for the launch in September.

I'll update you again with my plans sometime in mid-June so you'll know what to expect. One issue that I hadn't planned on, of course, was COVID-19 and how that will affect shipping. But obviosly it won't have an affect on ebooks.

Thanks for your patience and hope you and your loved ones are doing well right now.

Best,

Thomas

Manuscript now with the copyeditor
over 4 years ago – Fri, Jul 12, 2019 at 06:26:59 PM

Hi all, and thanks for backing me again on this journey. I have a few things to tell you, so let's get going.

Novel Progress

City At My Feet is written, rewritten, has been through the developmental editing process, and rewritten again based on the great feedback from my dev editor, Matt.

Now it's with my copy editor, Danielle, who is busy hunting down typos and grammar mistakes and things like that. Should be back in my hands and all changes as suggested by my editor done by September 15th or so, at the latest.

Current Progress

So, here's where we are (updated from last time):

  • First draft of City At My Feet: DONE!
  • Second draft: DONE!
  • Developmental Editing: DONE!
  • Third  & Fourth Drafts: DONE!
  • Copy Edit: This is where we are right now!

What's next...?

  • Incorporate Copy Edit Changes
  • Beta Readers (more on this soon)
  • Final Edit & Proofread
  • Book formatting (print and ebooks)

Of course, there still remains the short story collection and the novella, all of which I have a good idea of what those will be and I think those of you getting those extras are going to love what I've come up with.

So, the novel is still on track for an early release to all of you. I'm hoping for an early December ship date. But there is still much to do before I can make any promises. It could very well end up being delivered at the promised date on the Kickstarter campaign of in April, 2020.

More news later -- and there is a LOT going on that I can't wait to tell you about.

Best,

Thomas

Update on novel progress
almost 5 years ago – Sun, Jun 16, 2019 at 05:08:16 PM

Hi all,

Sorry to be out of touch so long, and I'll try to be more regular with my updates. Just been heads-down working on this book pretty much night and day! I'm very happy with the results, and I think you will be, too.

I thought you'd probably like to know how it's been going since my last message to you. Well, I've been making real progress since the Kickstarter campaign ended.

Current Progress

So, here's where we are:

  • First draft of City At My Feet: Complete!
  • Second draft: Complete!
  • Developmental Editor evaluation: Complete (and I've received all his notes)
  • Incorporate developmental edit changes: In progress

Coming up:

  • Third Draft: Starts June 20th
  • Fourth Draft: Starts June 27th
  • Copy Edit: Starts right after July 4th holiday (this is the line-by-line edit)
  • Incorporate Copy Edit Changes
  • Open to Beta Readers (more on this soon)
  • Incorporate Beta Readers' Changes
  • Final Edit
  • Proofread
  • Incorporate Proofread Changes
  • Done

This is a long process, but it's going well. I'm hoping to get you your ebooks, paperbacks, pins, etc., MUCH earlier than the promised April 2020. Ain't that exciting?

Surveys

I'll be sending out address verification surveys this week so be on the lookout. Also, if you meant to grab a paperback or the poster, please note that I'm using BackerKit to fulfill this campaign. BackerKit allows you to pick anything you want to add when you verify your current campaign pledge, kind of like a storefront metaphor where you add things to your basket.

Can't wait to get you your book about Sakima's adventures and get your reaction!

Cheers,

Thomas More, Writer
